BMO Harris Bank Cash Bonus Credit Card Offer

BMO Harris Bank offers several credit cards including The Cash Back MasterCard.  This credit card offers decent cash back rewards but also currently offers a big sign up bonus.  Overall, this is a solid cash back card but not a top tier card.  However, the cash back offer is very impressive.  Here are the details and a full review.

Card Benefits and Features

  • 2% Cash Back For Select Categories (limited)
  • 1% Cash Back On All Other Purchases
  • Redeem Cash Back at $15 Minimum
  • Digital Payments Including BMO Masterpass
  • 0% Introductory Interest Rates
  • No Annual Fee

Cardholders will earn 2% cash back on the first $2,500 spent on gas and groceries for each quarter.  If you exceed the limit you will then earn 1% cash back for these categories.  The gas and grocery categories make this a decent everyday spending card but overall there are much better cash back credit card available.

This card does provide some convenience features including compatibility with Google Pay, Samsung Pay, Apple Pay, and BMO Harris Bank Masterpass.  This allows consumers to make digital payments using their credit card linked to any of the digital payment wallets.

When opening a new card, consumers will have 6 months of zero percent interest on new purchases.  Additionally, for the first 12 months after opening a new card, you will have 12 months zero interest on balance transfers.  To qualify for the balance transfer APR you will need to complete your transfer within the first 90 days of opening your account.  Balance transfers are subject to a 3% transfer fee.

Cash Bonus Offer – $200

New cardholders are currently eligible for a bonus offer when they are approved for this credit card.  The offer is simple – spend $2,000 on your new account in the first three months and you will receive $200 cash back.  This is a one time bonus and the spending requirement must be met in the first three months to qualify.  For a zero annual fee credit card this is a very high new member bonus and is one of the main appeals of this credit card.

Alternative Options For Better Long-term Cash Back

The most similar card in terms of cash back would be the Blue Cash Preferred Card.  This card has an annual fee of $95 but offers 6% cash back for groceries and 3% cash back for gas.  Both are limited annually to a total of $6,000 per year.  After that, these categories and all other purchases will earn 1% cash back.  The card also has a big $300 sign up offer.  The big difference in earning rates will more than cover the annual fee for many consumers.

A recurring favorite for cash back options is the Citi Double Cash Card.  This card has no annual fee and all purchases effectively earn 2% cash back (1% at purchase and 1% at payment).  There is no bonus available for this card but the long-term earning potential is much higher.

Final Thoughts – Who Is This Card Best Suited For

Overall, this is a decent cash back card with a very generous sign up bonus.  If you are not a heavy credit card spender the bonus alone may make this card a good option.  $200 cash back is a great incentive.  There are better options available but for non annual fee it will be hard to find a better sign up offer than the BMO Harris Bank Cash Back MasterCard.
