IRS Get My Payment Coronavirus Relief

The Coronavirus crisis has resulted in Congress providing US citizins with a stimulus payment to assist with the economic downturn. Citizens can view their payment status which is provided by the IRS. Checking your payment may require the following information:

  • Your 2018 tax return
  • Your 2019 tax return (if already filed)
  • Your Social Security Number
  • Your home address and zip code

The purpose of this government portal is to all citizens to determine the status of their government payment. Citizens who are not eligible may receive a notice stating “payment status not available”. This most likely means that you are not eligible for the payment. Alternatively it may indicate you have not submitted your tax return and your data is unavailable for processing your payment.

Stimulus Payment Eligibility Requirements

  • US Resident with gross income less than $99,000
  • Single head of household with gross income less than $146,500
  • Joint couple with household income less than $198,000

The payments will be based on either your 2018 tax return or your 2019 tax return. If you have not yet filed your 2019 tax return your 2018 tax return will be used for payment eligibility.

The filing deadline for 2019 tax returns has been delayed until July 15th, 2019. If your income has changed in such that it would make you eligible for the stimulus it would be beneficial to complete your 2019 tax return so that this information is used to process your stimulus eligibility.

How To Check Your Payment Status

The IRS has set up a payment tracking portal at IRS.gov/GetMyPayment. Payments are issued based on the direct deposit information you have previously used for your tax returns. If you have not set up direct deposit, you payment will be mailed.

To check the status of your payment you will visit the IRS protal and provide your social security number, your home address, your date of birth, and your zip code. Your payment status will be provided based on the information you submit. If you do not meet the eligibility requirements for the stimulus payment you will receive the message “Payment Status Not Available”.

Additional Government Aid and Future Stimulus

In addition to the individual stimulus package approved by Congress business owners may be eligible for additional assistance through the SBA Disaster Assistance Program. This program is not currently taking new applicants due to the runaway success – funds have been depleted. It is anticipated that Congress will renew funding for this program and new applications will be allowed to be submitted.

At this time there has been no further announcement regarding individual stimulus for individuals.
