Turbo Tax Prepaid Visa Card

Turbo Tax is one of the most popular tax return processing companies.  They provide a variety of methods to have your tax refund processed.  The newest method is allowing customers to have their refund loaded on to a prepaid Visa Card.  To no surprise, The Turbo Prepaid Card is a popular and inexpensive option.  Additionally, customers have the option to earn a $10 bonus with their Turbo Prepaid Card.

Why Use A Prepaid Card For Your Tax Refund

Every person will have their own reasons but there are several reasons consumers opt for the Turbo Prepaid Card:

  • Refund cash available faster than cashing a check
  • No check cashing fee associated with activating your card
  • Customers may not have a bank account to directly deposit funds
  • No checking account available for debit card use with your refund
  • $10 Bonus when you make qualifying deposits on your card
  • Simplicity of having your funds available on a Visa Card ready for use

The most obvious reason for using The Turbo Prepaid Card is if you do not have a bank account available for direct deposit.  The hassle of a check is often not worth the effort and cost.  Furthermore, cashing a check often comes with an associated fee.  If any of these reasons seem attractive to you then the Turbo Prepaid Card may be a smart option.

Turbo Prepaid Card – $10 Bonus

Customers who choose to have their refund credited to a Turbo Prepaid Card have the option of receiving an additional $10 Bonus.  This promotion is currently available but there are requirements to receive your bonus.  First, it is important to state that this is a re-loadable card, much like a debit card.  With this in mind, customers qualify when they set up direct deposits on their new card.  Once you have completed 2 recurring direct deposits of at least $250 you will receive a $10 bonus.

To meet the requirements customers will need to complete their deposits between December 1st, 2018 and July 10th, 2019.  Given this wide range of dates, customers have ample time to qualify for a free $10.  Qualifying direct deposits would include payroll deposits and government benefits.  Your funds will be available on your card for use just as your tax refund.

Tracking Your Turbo Prepaid Card

Once you have submitted your tax return with Turbo Tax the IRS will process your refund.  Tracking your card is not done through Turbo Tax or Green Dot.  To clarify, Green Dot is the company behind your Turbo Prepaid Card.  Instead, you will track your refund through the IRS.  Customers can visit irs.gov/refunds to view the status of their refund.  It is also possible to contact the IRS by phone at (800) 829-1954 to check the status of your refund.

Activating Your Turbo Prepaid Card

Once you have received your refund you will need to activate your card before use.  This can easily be completed online.  When you visit the Turbo Card site (www.turboprepaidcard.com) you will find an activation link.  Following this link will redirect you to the activation form show below.

This entire form will need to be completed in order to activate your new card.  The following information is required for activation:

  • Your full 16 digit card number
  • The expiration month and year of your card
  • The 3 digit security code found on the back of your card
  • The last four digits of the cardholder’s social security number
  • Customers will be required to set up a PIN number for their card

Once you have completed the activation form, your card will be ready for use.  Your Turbo Prepaid Card can be used anywhere Visa is accepted.  It works just like a debit card and can be ran as debit or credit at checkout.  For debit purchases, you will be required to provide the PIN number you created during account activation.

Using Your Turbo Card To Get Cash (ATM Use)

As mentioned above, your card works almost identical to a traditional debit card.  To withdraw funds from an ATM you will need to provide your PIN number.  Customers will only be able to withdraw funds up to the amount they have on their card (or other set limits).  There is a processing fee of $2.50 when you use your card at an ATM.

To avoid the ATM processing fee customers will need to make sure they are using their card at an approved ATM.  No fee will apply to transactions completed within this network.  You can find a complete list of approved ATMs here.  Simply enter the ZIP code where you need an ATM and you will be shown free ATM locations.

Setting Up Direct Deposit For Your Turbo Prepaid Card

Direct deposit can be set up just like any other account.  You will have a routing number and account number associated with your card.  When you provide this information to your employer or benefits funds will be automatically loaded on to your card.  Customers can find their routing an account number online or through the Turbo App.

You can also manual deposit funds if you do not wish to set up direct deposit.  Keep in mind, only direct deposits will qualify for the $10 bonus.  To find locations to load funds on your card you can visit the “At The Register” website to locate partner locations.  Additionally, customers have the option of using MoneyPak cards to quickly load funds.
